Nepal Re-Open for Tourism with health protocol

Nepal Re-Open for Tourism with health protocol For all those who were eagerly waiting for tourism to re-open, we have a piece of great news for you! Nepal Government has made an especial announcement in favor of tourism in Nepal. After an eight months-long wait, Nepal will now be open for tourism starting October 17, 2020. The ministry has decided to resume all the tourism-related activities by following the health and safety protocols. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on the recommendation of Nepal COVID -19 Crisis Management Committee. Government spokesperson and foreign minister Mr. Pradeep Gyawali informed through a press briefing that trekking and mountaineering groups will be allowed to visit mountains from October 2020. This news has added a sense of relief and joy to all those who were willing to explore mountains for long. Even the travel companies are eager to welcome their guests after such a long separation from their work.

We – Himal Eco Treks team are eagerly waiting for your arrival in Nepal. It has truly been a long time! The last trekking season – March to May was a period of complete lockdown in Nepal. The trekking trail that once used to be crowded with trekkers during the trekking season was quiet and lonely the whole time! A single visitor hasn’t visited the trail for the past eight months. Doesn’t that sound strange? Yes, but at present, we are going through a strange circumstance! The whole world is going through a tragedy of this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is something that no one had ever expected and has brought a drastic change in our day to day lives. It has taught us many things, and now, we are all compelled to live with it like a new normal.

No matter, which corner of the world you are from, you must have been faced the lockdowns and must be coping with the post lockdown effects. Being locked feels like a prison and everyone is trying to come out of it. Traveling is something that everyone needs right now to get rid of this pandemic trauma. However, safety measures are a necessity! We cannot stay in one place for long. It is human nature that we need refreshment, holidays, and vacation. And, at this time, traveling can sound weird but we cannot go this way forever. We have to change our routine and at the same time, we have to take every preventive measure to be safe from the coronaviruses.

So, if you are planning for a trip any time sooner, we would like to inform you that we are open to travel and related services. But owing to the risk of coronavirus, the Nepal government has made it mandatory for all the trekkers and climbers to adhere to the health protocol issued by the Ministry of Health, Nepal. Lifting the ban in travel restrictions, Nepal Government has come up with some new conditions for those traveling to Nepal. The conditions are as follows –

  1. Nationals from the countries where Nepali Diplomatic Mission are present are required to acquire a visa from their own country before flying to Nepal. For nationals from those countries where the Nepal Diplomatic Mission office is not present, they can come to Nepal without obtaining a visa in advance. However, they should coordinate with travel agencies in Nepal. The travel agency shall ask the Department of Immigration via Nepal Tourism Board to issue on arrival visa to such visitors.
  2. The foreigner should have a PCR negative test report with them. The report should be within 72 hours prior to the departure date from your homeland.
  3. They should have documents that act as evidence that they have booked a hotel for seven-day quarantine upon arrival in Nepal.
  4. The trekker should have an insurance minimum of USD 5000.
  5. On the fifth day of their quarantine in Nepal, the foreigners should conduct a PCR test. If they test negative, they will be qualified to opt for a trekking and mountaineering activity.
  6. Apart from this, the visitors should follow the normal health protocols and safety measures like wearing a mask, hand washing, using sanitizers, maintaining social distance in public, etc.

*Note – the conditions are subject to change as per the decision of the Nepal Government
